"May you live in interesting times" is an English expression believed to be a translation of a traditional Chinese curse. These are certainly interesting times, and one could say that recent events match the theme of a curse.
When a war starts, there will always be winners and losers. And often, the truth is the loser.
One of the usual features of any war is propaganda. Combatants want to get their messages out, which might stretch the truth slightly.
Modern media is very different from past generations, and everyone with a mobile phone can become a journalist. But what about drones?
In the past, No Limit Dronez has offered free licenses to allow Search and Rescue teams helping at natural disaster sites to fly even if a no-fly zone exists at their location.
This flexibility has allowed rescue teams to make a difference without red tape.
Our team was reviewing recent events, and we wanted to do our part to help allow drone pilots to shine a light on what is happening in Russia and Ukraine. Until further notice, anyone living in Russia or Ukraine can get an NLD license for free to document activities in their region.
We deliberately allow parties from both countries to get a free license. While we might have our own opinions of who is right and who is wrong in this action, the citizens of both countries are in the middle.
We want to make it clear that we intend that the use of these licenses is for the purpose of free speech.
We reserve the right to vet and challenge any application to ensure the use of this free license is for that purpose and reject any request for a free license if we are not satisfied.
We believe that free speech will triumph over military action, and therefore we will not provide a free license if we suspect they may be used for military purposes.
The terms of this free license are:
- You must live in either Russia or Ukraine.
- You need to provide a copy of your ID or a utility bill proving your eligibility as a resident of one of these countries.
- You will use the NLD license to fly and capture video footage to document current events.
- You will provide copies of your footage via the No limit Dronez discord server.
- You authorise No Limit Dronez non-exclusive rights to redistribute and re-broadcast any video footage captured using your free license.
- We intend to redistribute provided footage to news organisations if it is newsworthy.
Please create a support ticket at https://support.nolimitdronez.com/ to request a free license. Make sure to set the help topic correctly. We will respond by giving you a voucher which you can use to get a license in our store for free.
If you know other people in either Russia or Ukraine who would benefit from this offer, please forward this email to them as well.
One last thing. We want you to be safe. Flying a drone can attract attention, even flying in a park in another country. Please take all necessary precautions for your safety.
We want you to capture the news, not to be part of the news or a casualty of war. Stay safe, and we all pray and hope for a rapid end to these hostilities.
